[77] Do You Know What You Really, Really Want?
You Intuition Is Calling: Discovering What You Really, Really Want
Hi, my name is Elise Lebeau. I’m the Left Brain Intuitive. And your intuition is calling, let’s see what it has to say.
The Importance of Knowing What You Really Want
Today, I’d love to figure out if you know what you really, really want. The reason this is so important is that your intuition can help you get to wherever you want to go in life. It’s not always a straight shot; sometimes it takes a while, and sometimes there are a lot of detours. But when you feel stuck, your intuition is the only thing that can get you there.
Setting Inspiring Destinations with Your Intuition
The problem is that a lot of times, we’re not setting a clear destination, or we’re setting a destination that is not going to be fulfilling when we get there. These are the two problems you can run into when you’re trying to clarify what you really, really want.
When I teach people how to leverage their intuition, the first thing I teach is how to access their intuition without distortion because, without that, we have nothing. But the second thing I teach is always alignment, which is what this is. We need to figure out where you want to go so we can align you in that direction. That’s what intuition needs to function.
Revealing What You Really Want
So when I ask you, what do you really, really want, what popped into your head? Did you think, “I want more money?” If you thought that, I can assure you that your intuition is not going to be of much help. Very few people are super inspired by the thought of having a huge pile of money, period. That’s not what you want. You want the money to do something with it. And that’s what you really, really want.
Finding Your True Desires For Your Intuition
If money popped into your head when I asked you that, ask yourself: Why do I want that? And keep going until you come to a place where you feel inspired. Let me give you an example. I went through this with a client recently. She said, “I want more money.” I asked, “What do you want to do with the money?” She replied, “I want to be cash flow positive in my business.”
“And why do you want to be cash flow positive in your business?” I continued. “So I can pay all my bills,” she said. “And why do you want to be able to pay all your bills?” “So I can stay in business,” she answered. “And why do you want that?” “So I can keep doing the work that I do.” “And why do you want that?” “Because I think the work I do is important and I want to keep helping my clients.”
Her work is important. But the fundamental destination she’s interested in is to be able to do all these things with money, where the destination is that she can keep helping her clients who really need her. This is the destination. That’s what she really, really wants.
Why Your Intuition Needs Inspiration
In your life, if money popped into your head when I asked you what you really, really want, you can unravel that like an onion and ask yourself: Why do I want that? Keep going until you come to a place where you feel inspired. Your goal should always, always, always feel inspiring to you.
Your intuition uses emotions primarily to communicate with you. The very simplest form of intuition comes through emotions. If you’re lined up in the direction of what you want, you will feel better. If you’re going away from what you want, you’re going to feel worse.
Aligning Your Goals with Intuition
So when you’re writing down your financial goals, whether it’s for your business or for your family, or doing your budget, and you feel bad, we need to do something about that. Because you could get the number and still be unhappy. Wouldn’t that suck? Wouldn’t it suck if you spent all this time and effort working to get more money, and then you get more money and realize you still feel empty?
Now you’re working 80 hours instead of 40 hours, and you have a bunch of clients you don’t like who are making your life miserable. Now you don’t have time to spend with your family. That’s what happens when you pick a goal that is not inspiring. Because your intuition is saying, “I cannot get you there.” Your intuition is specifically designed to help you achieve goals that are a good fit for who you really are.
Knowing When You’re on the Right Path
And you’ll know that feeling once you find the true why, once you find a true goal that really inspires you. You’re going to know right away because you’re going to go, “Oh yes, this one,” which is what happened to that client.
Avoiding the Trap of Focusing on the Problem: Healing
The second problem you might have when you’re trying to figure out what you really want is that you might be focusing on the problem. If, when I asked you what you really, really want, what popped into your head was more healing, this is a great example.
So there’s something that hurts in your body, there’s something that is not functioning well, you are sick, you have an illness. The word “healing” is hyper-focused on the problem. That’s not a destination because you don’t want to go to the problem, you want to go to the solution.
Again, something that happened with a client—most of my stories come from these wonderful conversations, really fun, soul-deep conversations. If you’re hurting somewhere and you’re asking for more healing, you’re focusing on the problem. Why do you want that? Why do you want more healing? “Well, because this really hurts in my right leg, I can barely sit. It’s so painful.”
“Okay, so your right leg hurts. Why do you want it to stop hurting?” “Oh, well, because if it stopped hurting, I could sit down and do my work. I haven’t been able to work for more than 10-15 minutes at a time.” “Okay. And if your leg was perfectly comfortable, what else would you want to do?”
“Oh, well, if I didn’t have this problem, maybe I could start walking again with my dogs because I haven’t been able to do that.” “What else would you do if your leg was perfectly comfortable?” “Well, I’d like to go back to riding. I used to ride horses, but I had to stop because of that leg pain.”
Breaking the Pattern of Problem-Focused Thinking
Can you feel the momentum gathering, explaining the problem? Every time that happens, it’s so hard because the momentum is so strong. In your brain, you have neurons that fire on a pattern. As soon as you touch the very beginning of that pattern, the neurons fire.
So, as soon as we come to talk about her right leg, she would immediately light up the problem in her brain. It’s a biological thing. It’s a very normal thing. It’s a very useful thing because that’s how we remember stuff. And because this is a painful thing, from an evolutionary perspective, it’s good that we know there’s a problem there so we can fix it.
Interrupting the Cycle
However, this is not meant to be on fire all the time. This neural pathway, where you trigger the first neuron and it distributes through the whole thing, can create a rut, a pattern that is overused. As soon as you trigger the first domino, the whole thing plays out.
To interrupt this pattern, imagine picking up one of the dominoes further down the line. When it comes to that point, the domino falls flat, and the whole thing stops. Interrupting these patterns is crucial when you find yourself hyper-vigilant about the problem. You’re under the inevitable momentum of the domino effect.
Redirecting to Solutions From Your Intuition
You can interrupt this pattern. In the conversation, I said, “Listen, if we talk more about the problem, this is not going to get better.” She paused for a second and said, “Really? I feel like the more I talk about it, the more chances I have to fix it.”
I asked, “Does that feel good when you say that to me?” She replied, “No, it does not feel good.” Why? Because her intuition was telling her, “You’re going the wrong way.”
So I asked, “Does it feel good when I ask you what you’re going to do when your leg is better?” Right away, she saw the difference—black and white. Very clear that this feels better. This feels like relief.
Yes, someday I will be able to work for a full hour without experiencing pain. That’s inspiring. That feels good; your intuition can help you there.
All right, that’s all I’m getting for you today. I hope this was helpful. I’ll talk to you soon.
